Nature at Forte dei Marmi

The Parco (park) delle Alpi Apuane, a short distance by car from “Forte,” is the perfect place for the nature lovers.

It is a veritable white marble kingdom from which Michelangelo selected his materials for his statue of David, ideal for horseback ridings, mountain biking and trekking.

There are a host of surprises waiting for you at Garfagnana, as the extraordinary Grotte del Vento, subterranean caverns featuring hidden lakes, stalactite, stalagmites and polychromatic mudflows.

For those who are more adventuresome, there is the Orrido di Botri, a real canyon among the rocks with a stupendous natural pool where the water is gelid even in summer.

Another suggestive sight is the area of Lunigiana, with its castles haunted with ghosts, a locale filled with traditional, folkloric customs, and many gastronomic delights to savor during the villages' festivals.
